Wednesday's edition of the Washington Post features an op-ed by Sarah Palin, who reprises her call -- first made in a Facebook post last week -- for President Obama to "boycott" the major climate talks in Copenhagen due to the "Climate-gate" controversy (actually a non-controversy).
"Policy decisions require real science and real solutions," Palin argued on Facebook, "not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public's worry and makes them feel that owning an SUV is a 'sin' against the planet."
The reaction to Palin's latest piece, however, is focused not on what she wrote, but on the fact that the Washington Post chose to run it in the first place.
Shortly after the op-ed was published online, Post media reporter Howard Kurtz tweeted that his paper was being "ripped for running Palin op-ed." Kurtz highlighted a blog post whose author refused to link to the op-ed because "[t]hey shouldn't be rewarded with the clicks, which is pretty much what this is about, I figure."
Politico's Ben Smith wrote on Twitter that it "struck me as slightly odd [that the Post] published an expanded version of her Facebook piece." He added later, "I agree she's relevant and boycott call is news."
The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder begged to differ with Smith's latter point. "Her boycott call is like a video press release," he wrote. "She's looking for a way to inject herself into this and found it." Ambinder published a critical "annotated" version of Palin's piece, noting at the onset, "Once again, the Washington Post has given Sarah Palin the chance to harness herself to the political story of the hour."
The response to the op-ed was even more critical from science writers. ScienceBlogs.com's Tim Lambert chose to headline his piece on Palin's op-ed: "The Washington Post can't go out of business fast enough." He pointed out that the Post's own reporting contradicted claims made by Palin in the op-ed. "The Washington Post simply does not care about the accuracy of the columns it publishes," he concluded. MEXICO CITY — Amnesty International said that Mexican soldiers have carried out torture and forced disappearances while fighting drug cartels.
The group said one case involves 25 Tijuana police officers detained on corruption allegations. The officers say troops put their feet in water and applied electric shocks to their bodies, including their genitals.
The Interior Department said it will analyze the report released by the human rights watchdog group on Tuesday. It also details four other cases of abuse against 10 people in the northern border states of Chihuahua, Tamaulipas and Baja California, where Tijuana is located.
More than 45,000 troops have been deployed to drug hot spots since President Felipe Calderon took office in 2006. Over 14,000 people have died in drug-related violence since then.
On Tuesday, 10 gunmen were killed in the northern state of Durango in a shootout with police and soldiers.
Army Gen. Moises Melo Garcia said a group of gunmen traveling in at least 10 vehicles opened fire on a state police helicopter carrying a state police official, his bodyguard and a soldier who were flying over the town of Cuencame. The state police official and his bodyguard were wounded in the attack, he said.
An unknown number of assailants escaped, Melo Garcia told reporters.
Officials rescued six people, including a local police officer, who had been kidnapped, he said.

MIAMI: The Tiger Woods tale took another dramatic turn on Tuesday morning with reports of a blonde middle-aged woman being taken out of his
lorida home on a stretcher.
Meanwhile, a website, citing "sources close to the golfer" and neighbours, reported that Tiger's wife Elin had moved out of the couple's $2.6 million Windermere home. The website, RadarOnline.com said Woods and his aides were keeping Elin's move a secret in the hope she would come back soon.
It is believed that Woods and his wife of five years have been renegotiating their prenuptial agreement in an attempt to persuade her to stay with him.
Elin has reportedly bought a Swedish mansion worth over $2 million. "The official story from her family is that she bought the place with her twin sister, Josefin, not with Tiger," a Swedish news agency was quoted as saying. Elin's Swedish home is located on prime Scandinavian real estate - a small, secluded island reachable from Stockholm only by ferryboat.
In yet another sensational turn, it was reported that Woods may have been rushed to hospital with a suspected overdose of prescription drugs the day he crashed his car outside his house.
The star's wife, Elin Nordegren, gave paramedics at the hospital two bottles of prescription drugs, Vicodin painkillers and Ambien sleeping pills, according to celebrity website TMZ.
He was said to have been having trouble breathing, was falling in and out of consciousness and doctors even had to use a tube to help him breathe.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that the police sought a subpoena to obtain Tiger's hospital blood test results, but the request was rejected.
At a TV show, a website's chief investigative correspondent said that it was strange that a 33-year-old world-class athlete like Tiger Woods was found on the grass, snoring, after the accident.
"He fell asleep, which raises the questions for some doctors - was he on sleep agents or possibly on pain medications that may have dulled him?"
Two more women were added to the list of the golfer's alleged mistresses, taking the increasing number to 10. One of the two women who "confessed" on Monday was a porn star named Holly Sampson, who has starred in films like Lingerie Or Bust and Diary Of A Horny Housewife.
The second was an unnamed cocktail waitress who said she had a two-year affair with Woods.
Love may or may not be blind, but sometimes it can be valid proof for stupidity. Why else would you get a tattoo on your nape with your lover's especially when tattoos, like diamonds, last forever? It's only relationships in Bollywood that don't have a long shelf life.
Since Deepika Padukone broke up with Ranbir Kapoor two months ago after having dated for nearly two years, she hasn't really spoken about the relationship publicly. So at a skin care product launch yesterday for which she is a brand ambassador, reporters seized the chance to question her about her ex.
The first question thrown at her was: What are you going to do about the RK tattoo on your back?
The question was met with stony silence and was followed up by a cheeky zinger: is the brand coming out with a cream that will erase your tattoo?
Deepika started fidgeting but said nothing. The journalists were relentless and went on to ask, "Are you happy after your break-up with Ranbir?"
By now the poor actress, who was probably regretting ever getting the blessed tattoo, snapped, "Of course, I am happy. Don't I look happy?"
It's no surprise that the interactive session didn't last very long after that. A visibly uncomfortable Deepika fled soon after from the backstage exit and left without any further hobnobbing with the media.
Perhaps she left to mull over what to do with the indelible stamp of her ex-lover - get another boyfriend with the same initials perhaps?
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday apologised to the Lok Sabha on behalf of the government for certain "undesirable" remarks by a Congress
member against former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "Yesterday I was not present in the House. I have heard some undesirable remarks were made by a member of the ruling coalition which was inappropriate. On behalf of our government, I apologise to the House," Singh, who returned last night after a three-day visit to Russia, said.
BJP and allies had yesterday created pandemonium in the House after Beni Prasad Verma (Congress) used demeaning remarks against Vajpayee forcing two adjournments.
The NDA members were agitated when Verma used a derogatory word against the former Prime Minister during a debate on the Liberhan Commission report and demanded an apology from him.

Barbara Jill Walters
Born: 25-Sep-1929 [1] Birthplace: Boston, MA
Gender: Female Religion: Jewish Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Journalist
Nationality: United States Executive summary: 20/20, The View
No movie stars, no politicians, no models.
It's a little like the "Seinfeld" creed -- no hugging, no learning -- with Barbara Walters as Larry David.
This fall, Walters set out deliberately to come up with an unusual list of characters for her annual, year-and-a-tear "10 Most Fascinating People" special.
Glenn Beck, Lady Gaga, Kate Gosselin, Jenny Sanford (the wife of wandering South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford), Tyler Perry, Michael Jackson's three kids and, now famously, Adam Lambert.
"A lot of people nobody had ever heard of last year," Walters told The Post. "And a lot of it is about sexuality."
No global warming, no mortgage meltdown, no public option.
"We call the show 'The 10 Most Fascinating People' of the year -- not 'The 10 Best Role Models,' " she says.
They may not all be people you'd want to bring home to Nana at Thanksgiving, but they have something in common. They are purely creatures of TV.
"I don't know many people who knew who Lady Gaga was two years ago," says Walters. "Last year, no one knew who Adam Lambert was.
"Tyler Perry, I'd venture to say that most white people don't know who he is." All the interviews were conducted since September -- most have been done in the last three weeks, she says.
Lambert sat with her the morning after his now-notorious performance on the American Music Awards -- and before her network, ABC, started banning him from upcoming shows. She's going back today to see Adam and update the interview.
"I watch 'American Idol,' " says Walters, surprisingly. "And when I saw Adam I thought, 'This is someone we're going to a see a lot of.' The business of him coming in second and that whole question mark about him being gay, we booked him long before the controversy."
That's how you brag -- politely -- about still having an instinct for what people want to watch.
Without fanfare or Oprah-style hoopla, Barbara Walters turned 80 last September. She bristles at the mention of the word "semi-retirement" -- which is what she led viewers to believe she was doing four years ago when she gave up hosting "20/20."
She wanted to travel, Walters explained back then, see more than the airport and hotel in the places around the world where she'd had to work over the last 30 years. She wanted to spend more time with her daughter, Jackie.
So where's she been in the last three years? Long pause.
Ten days in Vietnam, to a friend's birthday in Switzerland and, oh yes, she's going to the Dominican Republic for a few days later this month.
Leaving "20/20" was more about leaving the grind of doing a prime-time TV show three weeks a month than about relaxing by the pool boys in Mororcco, it seems.
Then, Walters said the most revealing thing of a short, show-promoting phone interview.
"Diane Sawyer and I are no longer going to the same people all the time," she said. "And let me tell you, it's been a great relief to both of us."
She has plans now, she says, to update her first book "How to Talk With Practically Anybody About Practically Anything," which she wrote in 1970 when she was still working on the "Today" show and is now out of print (the cheapest, used copy on Amazon sells for $115 as a "collectible").
"It's dated," she says. "But the advice is still good, and I'd like to redo it again."

Danny Cahill was crowned the winner of The Biggest Loser season 8 after losing a whopping 239 lbs on the NBC reality show.
The Biggest Loser winner was revealed during the live finale broadcast of the weight-loss series' eighth season on Tuesday night.
Oklahoma land surveyor/musician Danny Cahill started the competition at 430 lbs and lost 239 pounds for a 55.58% weight-loss percentage, claiming the show's $250,000 grand prize.
Previously eliminated contestant Rebecca Meyer won the at-home weight loss prize of $100,000, dropping an amazing 139 pounds (49.82 percent of her body weight)!
Shay, the heaviest contestant on the show, received an offer to return to the show for next year's season nine finale. Sponsored by Subway, the 30-year-old social worker will receive $1000 for every pounds she loses in the next few months.
The tearjerker moment of the night came when Antoine proposed to Alexandra! And of course, she said yes!
With a total weight loss of 239 lbs, Oklahoma land surveyor/musician Danny Cahill is the newest winner of The Biggest Loser!
The Biggest Loser winner was revealed during the show's eighth season finale on Tuesday night. As usual, the finale brought back all of the season's slimmed-down contestants for one last weigh in. But first, Allison Sweeney revealed the identity of the contestant chosen by America to compete in the finale. The lucky lady was Amanda Arlauskas, who became an official finalist along with Rudy Pauls and Danny Calhill . The person who lost the highest percentage of weight would win the show's $250,000 prize and the title of The Biggest Loser.
And the weight loss results after seven months of sweat and tears:
* Amanda lost 87 lbs - from 250 lbs to 163 lbs ( 34.8% of her total body weight) * Rudy lost 234 lbs - from 442 lbs to 208 lbs. ( 52.94% of his total body weight) * Danny lost 239 lbs. -- from 430 lbs to 191 lbs. (55.58 % of her total body weight)
"Rudy has been my biggest inspiration. I spent a lot of time at the ranch trying to catch this guy," Danny said before finding out that he was the Biggest Loser. Then, it was all about Danny as the confetti dropped and the contestants celebrated on stage.
Danny wasn't the only contestant to go home with a much-deserved check . Previously eliminated contestant Rebecca Meyer won the at-home weight loss prize of $100,000. She lost a total of 139 pounds (49.82 percent of her body weight)! There were also a couple of other moments worth mentioning. Antoine Dove popped the question in a tearful proposal to fellow contestant Alexandra White. Alexandra accepted, making them just he latest Biggest Loser contestants to head down the aisle.
In another surprising moment, Subway invited Shay Sorrells - who made history this season as the heaviest contestant in Biggest Loser history - to return to the show for next year's season nine finale. The restaurant franchise will offer the 30-year-old social worker $1000 for every pounds she loses in the next few months. Now that's motivation!

LAKEWOOD, WASH. (KPLU) - The procession honoring the four slain Lakewood police officers begins at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. About 1,000 police and emergency vehicles will leave McChord Air Force Base (from the North Gate) and head to the Lakewood Police Department. From there, they'll be joined by the families of Sgt. Mark Renninger and Officers Greg Richards, Ronald Owens and Tina Griswold. From the Lakewood Police Department, the route will follow Steilacoom Blvd. and S. Tacoma Wy., which should offer the best places to view the procession.
The route ends at the Tacoma Dome, site of the memorial service, beginning at 1 p.m. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend. Doors open at 11 a.m. The service will be televised by several media outlets.
There are also some off-site locations for the public to gather to watch the memorial:

B.C. officers head south for solemn memorial
ctvbc.ca
More than 500 British Columbian Mounties and police officers headed south for a solemn memorial Tuesday.
The group joins thousands of officers and first responders heading to Tacoma, Washington to honour four slain officers.
Sergeant Mark Renninger, 39, and Officers Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42, were shot to death by a lone gunman while working on their laptops inside a suburban coffee shop November 29.
Sgt. Peter Theissen told CTV News the incident resonates heavily with officers in Canada and all across the world.
"We all share a common bond. We all go to work every day carrying a risk that we could be killed carrying out our duties," he said.
Four Mounties were killed in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, in March 2005 while executing a search warrant on a rural farm. Theissen said the incident, the worst in 100 years for the RCMP, is something "that never leaves a police officer's mind."
"We can appreciate what the police community in the United States are going through and we certainly share their grief and share supporting them as much as we can," he said.
Memorial
The memorial includes a three-hour procession as the caskets of the officers are placed at the Tacoma Dome. As many as 20,000 officers are expected to attend.
The gunman, 37-year-old Maurice Clemmons was shot dead by police in a south Seattle neighbourhood after a massive two-day manhunt.
Clemmons was carrying a handgun that belonged to one of the slain officers, police said.
The motive for the shootings is still unclear, though Pierce County Sheriff spokesperson Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News-Tribune Clemmons indicated the night before the shooting "that he was going to shoot police and watch the news."
The suspect
As the investigation continues into Clemmons' actions, questions are being raised as to why he was paroled from prison earlier this decade.
Clemmons had been serving a 108-year sentence for a teenage crime spree, but was released in 2000 after the Governor of Arkansas -- then Mike Huckabee -- commuted his sentence. Clemmons quickly returned to prison for a parole violation, but he was released again in 2004.
At the time of his death, Clemmons was facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer and raping a child. But he was released from jail after posting bail through the assistance of Jail Sucks Bail Bonds.

(CNN) -- Bryant Gumbel made an unexpected announcement Tuesday morning as a guest host on "Live! With Regis & Kelly." The host of HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" had surgery two months ago to remove a malignant tumor on his lung.
Gumbel, 61, appeared on the morning talk show to fill in for Regis Philbin, who recently underwent a successful hip surgery. Gumbel, a cigar smoker, brought up his surgery after chatting with co-host Kelly Ripa about his inability to dance.
"I can't," he said. "I have a note from my doctor."
The former "Today" show host explained to viewers that he has told few people about the surgery in which part of his lung was removed.
"They opened up my chest; they took a malignant tumor, part of my lung and some other goodies," he said. "The pathology on most of the stuff came back benign but enough aggressive cells had escaped the tumor that it warranted some treatment."
Gumbel kept the treatment close to the vest. "We had told a few people. We told my family, obviously," Gumbel said. "I even kept it from my staff at 'Real Sports.' "
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women in the United States, but it's also the most preventable, according to the American Cancer Society. Gumbel said he and his doctor are hoping his treatment is complete.
"I'm OK for the time being," Gumbel told the audience.
He added that he'll see his surgeon next week and said he's even hoping he'll get the green light to hit the links again.
Elin Nordegren's mother, Barbro Holmberg is identified as the woman taken from Tiger Woods' home in an ambulance. Barbro Holmberg is a Swedish politician, and TMZ is reporting that she was rushed to the hospital after complaining of stomach pains. Tiger Woods' mother-in-law is most likely in the US to support her daughter, Elin Nordegren Woods, during this tumultuous time.
Conflicting reports from the Fire Department indicate that the call may not have actually come from Tiger Woods' home. The emergency call could have come from another home nearby, which matches stories that Elin Nordegren moved out of the Woods residence. Barbro Holmberg may be the "middle-aged" woman with "blondish-gray" hair that was seen being wheeled away in an ambulance this morning.
The woman taken, presumably from Tiger Woods home, in an ambulance was taken to the same hospital that treated Tiger Woods after his November 27th car accident. A blonde woman in an SUV with tags only one character off from the tags of the car involved in Tiger's accident was seen arriving at the hospital. This makes it sound like TMZ's report that Barbro Holmberg, Elin Nordegren's mother, could have been the lady taken away in the ambulance.
If the patient was indeed Barbro Holmberg, reports indicate that she has been released from the hospital.
Davidson County residents are following the Tiger Woods story very closely. Tiger Woods has another Florida residence that is in the same neighborhood as Grand Ole Opry member and country music super star Alan Jackson.

OCOEE, Fla. (AP) - Emergency crews were summoned to Tiger Woods' Orlando-area mansion for the second time in less than two weeks Tuesday, this time because his mother-in-law was having stomach pains.
Barbro Holmberg was taken by ambulance to Health Central Hospital after someone called 911 about 2:35 a.m., hospital spokesman Dan Yates said. She was in stable condition later Tuesday and her condition was not serious, but Yates said he could not be more specific because of privacy laws.
Holmberg, who arrived in the U.S. a few days ago, lives in Sweden and is the mother of Woods' wife, Elin.
Health Central is the same hospital where Woods was treated after he crashed his sport utility vehicle outside his home in the gated Isleworth community in Windermere last month.
Yates said Holmberg was in a private room and the family has hired additional security to keep the media away. He said family members have visited, but he would not say which ones.
"She's in a wing that helps protect her privacy," Yates said.
Media attention has been focused on the world's No. 1 golfer since he hit a hydrant and a tree around 2:25 a.m. on Nov. 27.
The Florida Highway Patrol last week cited Woods for careless driving and fined him $164.
The accident - and Woods' refusal to answer questions about it - fueled speculation about a possible dispute between him and Elin.
Tiger Woods scandal
What's the latest in the Tiger Woods scandal? Here's the news you need to know.
Just days before the crash, a National Enquirer story alleged Woods had been seeing a New York nightclub hostess, Rachel Uchitel, who has denied it. After the crash, Us Weekly reported that a Los Angeles cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs claims she had a 31-month affair with Woods.
Last week, Woods issued a statement saying he had let his family down with unspecified "transgressions" that he regrets with "all of my heart." He did not elaborate.
A police report on the crash released Monday showed that a Florida trooper who suspected Woods was driving under the influence sought a subpoena for the golfer's blood results from the hospital he was taken to after the crash, but prosecutors rejected the petition for insufficient information.
A witness, who wasn't identified in the report, told trooper Joshua Evans that Woods had been drinking alcohol earlier. The same witness also said Woods had been prescribed two drugs, the sleep aid Ambien and the painkiller Vicodin.
The report did not say who the witness was but added it was the same person who pulled Woods from the vehicle after the accident. Woods' wife has told police that she used a golf club to smash the back windows of the Cadillac Escalade to help her husband out. His injuries were minor.
The sister of a neighbor who called 911 after the crash told troopers that Holmberg and Woods' mother were also at the scene, but the AP has not been able to confirm that.
Eva Malmborg, a spokeswoman for Holmberg, said she was informed by a family member that Holmberg was admitted to a hospital in Florida due to stomach pains but was feeling well "considering the circumstances."
Malmborg said that as far as she knows, Holmberg doesn't suffer from any disease.
Holmberg's deputy, Olov Rydberg, said in a statement that Holmberg is expected back at her job as Gavleborg county governor in central-east Sweden next week.

With such harsh current rulings against the world's many torrent sites, one company is heavily profiting from the types of searches which are responsible for over 60% of all global searches. Google, valiantly remains the world's largest torrent indexer, although some choose to disagree. The debate on Google remains as disputable as any argument, although some of us know, that the unfair war against the torrent site's, is being heavily over-looked against Google.
For those who do not understand how Google violates the same "regulations" that are being "alleged" as being broken by the torrent and warez sites, let me explain. The Google Bot spiders the logs of every site, and the bot then spiders all the previous searches (urls with arguments) and Google indexes them. Thus using Google, you can access tons of claimed "copyright" infringing torrents.
So why is it okay for Google to do this? Well, some would claim Google does not host the alleged infringing files on their servers. True, but neither do torrent sites. A torrent site works as a search engine, merely pointing you in the proper location. The only files that are uploaded to torrent sites, are small, BitTorrent files, which provide torrent clients the ability to know who has the said files, by pinpointing a swarm into the proper direction, and allowing one to access that which they are looking for. Torrent files themselves are in no way, shape, or form, illegal, or violate any copyright laws.
So Google, continues to lead the world as the most visited website, even though it's been proven that at least 75% of all internet traffic, is used for file sharing. They profit daily, from ad revenue, that can be seen on the same pages, as indexed searches of copyrighted material. In some nations though, torrent sites under fire, have legally demanded this topic be further reviewed by the courts, before allowing torrent sites to receive all the fire, simply for lack of understanding how it all works.
Just recently, Isohunt, has broughtit before the attention of the anti piracy outfits in Canada. IsoHunt Web Technologies Inc, the company behind the IsoHunt Bittorent search engine, has delivered a case against the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) in front of a British Columbia court, raising questions about whether search engines are liable for the sharing of copyrighted material. Isohunt delivered the case outline in court after the company received legal threats from the legal threats from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and CRIA.
The courts must now decide, whether infamous search engines such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing, which also return search queries linking in "alleged" copyrighted materials, are breaking the same copyright laws as the advocates for anti piracy claim that the IsoHuner web site does. In front of the legal system, Isohunt's attorneys demonstrated to the court, that Google can be used search for the same files that are also being found on sites like Isohunt. The only thing that torrent sites do differently, is that torrent sites are used specifically to find BitTorrent files, while Google searches all file extensions.
None the less, Google, still the world's largest search engine, is not being charged for doing the same thing that smaller torrent indexers do, allow users to search for copyrighted material. Becoming an "enabler" for the access of illegal materials. Isohunts's Gary Fung has stated, "It's disappointing to see CRIA wanting to unnecessarily complicate our well defined petition, in attempt to bog us down with time and money through messy discovery and in the process the court's time too.".
Google, Yahoo, MSN, and other major search engines could be engaged in a legal battle in Canada for returning search queries related to copyrighted material. Or maybe it will be overlooked yet again. If in fact it is over-looked, then it's time for someone to announce the hypocrisy of the anti piracy outfits. In fact, to this date, Google has linked more users to copyrighted materials, then all torrent sites combined.
Some can defend Google yes, and say it doesn't have the intent to link to copyrighted materials, where as torrent sites do. No, that claim is outrageous as well, where as torrent sites are meant to link you to useful "legal" materials, and help it's users find them with ease. There are lots of products that are not considered copyright violations, that you can find via torrent sites.
Google could easily defend itself against rather unmatched opponents such as the industry led anti piracy advocates. It's brand is worth over a hundred billion dollars. It's awfully hard to compete in trial against a company with the finances to defy and obliterate you, and the industry moguls know this.
Not only do they know Google is a multimedia powerhouse, but it's also a direct financer of many Hollywood production companies, and their owner's personal business ventures. Also, a new tool from Google was introduced, allowing locked DRM releated videos to be sold from it's online store. Google Video, delivers in a securely locked format, in which restricts how Google members are able to use and view the videos which they have purchased. Such forms of security, are known as a Digital Rights Management system (DRM). DRM is also used by many Google's competitors, and other forms of entertainment, for the purpose that it is unlike any other copyright system that is currently in place. Instead, it enforces a single method of how copyright should work, and forces it to be used by Google's customers.
So it seems, as long as you "appease" the companies whom are pursuing the copyright liability claims, that you can continue to gain profit doing the same things. As long as you have the financial backing to bend the rules, then it's okay by all means in the eyes of anti piracy outfits. In the process of violating the same regulations set forth for torrent sites, Google not only continues to do the same thing, but it also sits back unaffected as it's competition in searches, the torrent sites, are shut down, one by one.
In a modern age, where some torrent sites are forced to inflict copyright filters, and others have their service providers threatened with charges, it would seem, that Google would also have to follow the regulations. What ever happened to, all for one and one for all? Should one company be allowed to continue the same illegitimate business practices, while others are forced closed? Absolutely not. The hypocrisy of such actions, are visible to us all. I only hope that some who's vision on this matter was blurred, now can see this with eyes wide open.

Bhajji consults with Geeta
Recently, Harbhjan Singh took a special woman to check out his new 14,160 square feet property on the eighth floor of Trade World Building in Lower Parel. Bollywood starlet Geeta Basra was the lucky one because the cricketer and the actress are seeing each other. Text: Vickey Lalwani. Photos: Geeta (BCCL), Harbhajan (Manoj Kesharwani)
The bond
A source said, "The bond between Harbhajan and Geeta grows stronger by the day. He consults Geeta on a lot of important decisions in his life. She knew about Harbhajan's Lower Parel property right from the day Harbhajan first set his eyes on it. She looked very comfortable in Harbhajan's company when they went to have a look at his new property." Text: Vickey Lalwani. Photos: Harbhajan (Satish Malavade), Geeta (BCCL)
In touch with Dhoni too
Geeta confirmed that Harbhajan showed her around. However, she claimed that her visit to Harbhajan's property was not preplanned. She said, "I happened to be in Kamala Mills in Parel because I am in touch with Harbhajan and MS Dhoni, I knew that the boys were in the same area too. So I went over and joined them. I loved Harbhajan's place." Text: Vickey Lalwani. Photos: Harbhajan (Uma Kadam), Geeta (BCCL)
'I'm happy for him'
Isn't she closer to Harbhajan than Dhoni, we ask. "Well, yes," came the frank reply. "We both are Panjus, na?" she laughed. "Harbhajan is a fantastic cricketer and a great guy. I am very happy for him about his venture with Dhoni. We do catch up whenever he is free," Geeta added. Text: Vickey Lalwani. Photos: Geeta (BCCL), Harbhajan (AP/Manish Swarup)
'Ask Harbhajan'
When we asked her to spill the beans on their relationship, Geeta said, "You should ask Harbhajan about that. All I can say is that I am a very loyal person and I have only a handful of friends. The day there is something to admit about our relationship, I will." Text: Vickey Lalwani. Photos: Harbhajan (Reuters/Manav Manglani), Geeta (BCCL/Rajesh Bansod)
uninor india, uninor mobile, uninor gsm, uninor website, union telecom, union telecom service launched in india.
all is what we have to wait to get updates on this... will uninor / union mobile telecom service direct compete with the BSNL, MTNL, Vodafone, Airtel, IDEA ? What will be the prices for UNINOR in INDIA?
Telecom tariff war is in india and as we mentioned earlier, Uninor has launched it’s GSM service in India (they are the 8th GSM operator in India). the company claims is the largest single day launch in telecom history of india, as the service is now available to 550 million people, i.e. 7 circles – Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar & Uttar Pradesh (East & West). The service will be available in Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai soon...
Uninor Pricing
Uninor will be retailed at 210,000 point of sale via ~1000 distributors – the company offers two plans, ‘talklonger@29p/min’ and ‘Callmore@29p/min’. While other telecom companies are bringing down the pricing from 1 paisa/sec to 0.5 paisa/sec, Uninor raises the bar with 29p/min (which is still lower than 0.5p/sec).
Uninor TalkMore Plan offers local calls @29 p/minute (with setup charge of 39p), while Callmore offers calls at 29 paise and STD at 49 paise per minute, with a daily rental of Rs2.
DoCoMo and now Uninor – lets hope we don’t compromise on the network quality.
Predatory Pricing
New telecom operators, DoCoMo and Uninor are changing the rules of the game and Bharti CEO has even asked TRAI to look into the predatory pricing strategy by new telecom operators to woo customers.
“Trai should look at predatory pricing… The current tariff structure is lower than the cost structure of operators. Clearly, tariffs have to be sustainable in the long run.
And as one telcom puts it aptly:
When Trai wanted all telcos to provide the per-second billing option, large operators opposed the move and sought that tariffs be left to market forces. But, when market forces take over, they want the regulator to step in. Any reduction in tariffs benefits customers and therefore their stance is anti-consumer” – ET
Will Indian telecom incumbents lose out to new players, owing to their resistance to change? Remember the days when even incoming was charged and incumbents like Bharti sucked the blood out of customers until Reliance came in and changed the game?
Also Mr. Stefan Kercza, Hub Head, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, said the Telenor Group had leveraged its position in India with an investment of Rs 2,620 crore, all for becoming a significant operator in the GSM space and getting 8 per cent of the market share in the next five years.

“Paa” is a movie which touches the sensitive cords of human emotions. The producer of the movie is R.Balacrishnan who is not new in the battle field of direction and has already directed a romantic comedy “Cheeni Kum” two years back. His recent film “Paa” is another challenge for him and, no doubt, may add another feather in his cap.

Swimsuit model Joanna Krupa will feature on the Playboy magazines December 2009 cover. Joanna is stripping down for the magazine for the second time in four years.
When asked about people who feel that posing for ‘Playboy’ is degrading to women , Joanna Krupa said
“I think they suffer from lack of knowledge and tunnel vision. How many of those self-important, so-called ‘feminists’ have been on the set when a celebrity shot a Playboy spread? There you go. What is feminist about discriminating a photo shoot just because it involves female (partial) nudity that happens to give men pleasure? Pathetic.”

MUMBAI, India — Virender Sehwag is on course to become the first man to score three Test triple-centuries, hitting an unbeaten 284 on Thursday to put India in command of the third and final Test against Sri Lanka.
At stumps on Day 2, India was an imperious 443-1, in response to Sri Lanka's first innings of 393. After just two days, it appeared Sri Lanka's chances of getting a series-levelling victory were over.
Sehwag made the second-fastest double century in Tests, reaching the mark in just 168 balls, compared to New Zealander Nathan Astle's 153-ball effort against England in 2001-02. In all, he hit seven sixes and 40 fours off 239 deliveries, dominating two big partnerships with Murali Vijay (87) and Rahul Dravid (62 not out).
Sehwag and Australia's Donald Bradman are the only players to have scored two triple-centuries in Yests. Sehwag's triple-centuries were made against Pakistan at Multan in 2004 and versus South Africa at Chennai in 2008.
Sehwag shared a brisk 221-run opening stand with Vijay, who was the only India batsman dismissed Thursday, lbw to Rangana Herath after picking the wrong delivery to attempt a sweep.
Filling in for Gautam Gambhir, who is missing this Test to attend his sister's wedding, Vijay hit 10 boundaries.
Sehwag and Dravid then featured in an unbroken 222-run partnership for the second wicket.
With Sehwag punishing the bowlers, Dravid was content to play the supporting role, hitting just five boundaries in his 121-ball innings.
All Sri Lanka's bowlers came in for severe punishment. Herath, the lone successful bowler, finished with the figures 1-112 in 22 overs, while ace offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan conceded 119 runs off his 20 overs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews fell just one run short of his maiden Test century when he was run out. He pulled a short ball to deep square-leg, and tried a second run in his eagerness to complete the hundred, but failed to beat Sachin Tendulkar's accurate throw to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Mathews hit 15 boundaries off 131 deliveries.
Resuming at the overnight score of 366-8, Sri Lanka added 27 runs for the loss of its remaining two wickets. The visitors' innings folded soon after the departure of Mathews, as last man Chanaka Welegedara (8) fell lbw to Pragyan Ojha (3-101).
Sri Lankan batsmen got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. They had to blame themselves for their poor shot selection that cost them their wickets.
Pranavitana started the proceedings by driving fast bowler Zaheer Khan for a four in the first ball of the innings. He played well for his brief stay and cashed in on the loose deliveries hitting seven fours during his 81-ball stay.
At the other end, Dilshan was in an aggressive mode and was severe on Shantakumaran Sreesanth, the Man of the Match in the last Test in Kanpur.
Sreesanth tried to rattle Dilshan with a bouncer, but the Sri Lankan hooked it for a six. Dilshan again pulled the next delivery for a four and hit the last ball through mid-wicket for another four, forcing captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to take out Sreesanth from the attack and introduce spin. Dilshan's 160-ball innings was studded with 10 fours and two sixes.
Harbhajan gave India the first breakthrough by picking up Pranavitana before the lunch break. In the second session Sri Lanka lost three quick wickets -- skipper Kumar Sangakkara (18), Mahela Jaywardene (29) and Thilan Samaraweera (1), for 60 runs.
But Dilshan and Mahela did the repair act with a 59-run stand for the third wicket. Things were looking good for Sri Lanka, but disaster struck when Mahela top-edged Sreesanth to give an easy catch to Virender Sehwag at backward square leg before .
Dilshan was unfortunate to be get out bat-pad off Harbhajan and caught by Murali Vijay. TV replays clearly showed that his gloves and bat were long away from the bat, but umpire Nigel Llong thought otherwise.
Matthews and Prasanna Jaywardene (43) took the vistors past the 300-mark with their gritty 67-run partnership.
India lead the series 1-0 and a win here will propel them to the top spot in Test rankings. The historic Brabourne Stadium is hosting the first Test match in 36 years.

James Cameron interview for Avatar - Long before James Cameron shot a frame of Titanic
he was working on a movie so ambitious and futuristic that it would be another 14 years before technology caught up with him and he could film it the way he wanted to.
The long-planned and much-hyped £160 million 3D science-fiction extravaganza Avatar will finally be released around the world just before Christmas, 12 years after Titanic, which was 55‑year-old Cameron’s last feature film and remains the biggest box-office hit of all time.
That record could be overtaken by the visually astonishing Avatar, whose ground-breaking techniques and spectacular effects are likely to revolutionise filmmaking and will set standards for years to come.
Cameron, whose filmmaking has always been notable for its technological innovations, explained it simply: “I basically sat down and put everything in this that I ever wanted to see in a movie – and that’s why it’s such a grab-bag of visual concepts.”
With a cup of coffee in hand and looking relaxed and in a pair of jeans and casual shirt, he was talking in his private projection room after screening 30 minutes of Avatar to a small invited group. It is impossible not to be fascinated and enthralled by his action-filled 3D vision of adventure and battles in an iridescent jungle on an alien planet, where hideous, dragon-like creatures appear to leap off the screen, flora and fauna wave in the air and a heroic avatar does battle with a pterodactyl-like beast before subduing it and soaring off on its back.
“It came from all the science-fiction books I read when I was a kid and it just gestated over time,” he said. “I did a lot of fantasy art and I had drawers full of drawings of creatures, characters, robots, spaceships and all that sort of thing. So for me I was just going back to my roots.”
As a teenager Cameron was so astounded at Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey that he saw it 10 times and became inspired to experiment with 16mm filmmaking and model-building. From his earliest filmmaking days – he first gained recognition for writing and directing The Terminator in 1984 – he has been a leading science-fiction auteur and special-effects visionary. Aliens, which he wrote and directed, snared seven Oscar nominations but he developed a reputation for making extreme demands on cast and crew; and The Abyss, which won an Oscar for best visual effects, was a notoriously difficult shoot.
While making Titanic he frequently clashed with studio bosses and the film was delayed because of his use of painstaking state-of-the-art special-effects technology. By his own account it was not an easy or pleasurable film to make, but it went on to receive 14 Oscar nominations, winning 11 including best picture and best director.
As Avatar’s star, Cameron chose the up-and-coming Australian actor Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, an ex Marine who has been wounded and paralysed from the waist down. He agrees to travel to Pandora, an Earthlike-planet with a lush rainforest environment, trees a thousand feet tall, floating mountains and an abundance of life forms, some beautiful and some terrifying. There he becomes an avatar, a human-hybrid who falls in love with a Na’vi, a young native woman who is 10ft tall, blue-skinned and played by Zoe Saldana, from Star Trek.
As he becomes increasingly involved with her and her clan he finds himself caught between the military industrial forces of Earth and the Na’vi, who are increasingly threatened by the human expansion on Pandora.
“We’re telling the story of what happens when a technologically superior culture comes into a place with a technologically inferior indigenous culture and there are resources there that they want,” said Cameron. “It never ends well.
“It’s also a love story about an awakening of perception through the other person. That person must teach him something and there has to be a greater reason for him to be in love with her other than she’s a hot blue alien chick.”
The Canadian-born Cameron and his staff have been experimenting for years with seamlessly blending live action footage with computer-generated techniques, including motion-capture CG that can record an actor’s facial expressions and a virtual camera system that allows Cameron to see in real time the way his actor-based CG characters interact with their virtual worlds.
“It’s fine to say, 'Hey, we did all this unprecedented stuff’, but you have to be willing to go through the painful steps of creating those things and going from an idea to a prototype to a production-ready toolset in a very, very rapid timeframe,” he said. “Avatar was driven by the maturation of the new technology.”
Cameron, who has always used his films as experimental sounding-boards for future projects, explained: “We had taken technology and pushed it a little bit further and got fluid computer-generated creatures on to the screen with The Abyss and we did the same thing again, pushing technology further, with Terminator 2.”
But it was not until he saw how Peter Jackson had created the Gollum character in Lord of the Rings that he felt it would be possible to make Avatar – although, he said: “We were going significantly beyond anything he had done because we had all sorts of different characters based on different actors.”
He went to New Zealand to meet Jackson, toured his special-effects workshop and hired Jackson’s Weta company to work on Avatar.
Cameron explained his methods as he took me on a tour of the offices of his Lightstorm company in an unobtrusive, three-storey building on a busy street in the centre of Santa Monica. It is there, in offices lined with movie posters and rooms containing models of outlandish-looking creatures, that his staff of 60 artists, writers, production assistants and computer experts work on bringing his sometimes impossible‑seeming ideas to the screen.
The first 18 months of the four years he spent working on Avatar were devoted to creating the plants, costumes, vehicles, weapons, and, of course the creatures. One room is filled with models of creatures he and his staff created for Avatar – the Leonopteryx, the Stingbat, the Direhorse, the Sturmbeest, the Hellfire Wasp and many others that didn’t make it into the movie.
The actors had to learn Na’vi, a language that a linguistics professor spent a year creating for the movie, and Worthington, who was previously in Terminator Salvation and will be seen in next year’s Clash of the Titans, spent 13 months rehearsing and filming his scenes. “I’ve never had a guy push me like that,” he recalled later.
Cameron hasn’t yet decided on the exact length of Avatar, although he says: “It’s much shorter than Titanic. Let me put it this way – it’s an epic and a full experience and the only reason it’s not longer is because it’s a 3D experience and we don’t know what people’s threshold is for that, so we’re erring a little bit on the conservative side.”
With plenty of story material left over and the creatures and technology in place it would seem that an Avatar sequel is inevitable, but Cameron is not so sure.
“I honestly don’t know how I feel about a sequel right now. I’d love for us to be successful enough to warrant it, but I don’t know if I actually want to spend another three years making one.”
The filmmaker, who spent a lot of time in deep-diving submarines for Titanic and his documentary Ghosts of the Abyss, added, laughing: “It’s pretty simple. I like to be an explorer and I like to be an artist. I find those two things most fulfilling and after Avatar is done and I’ve hopefully made a little money off it I can go and do some more exploring.”
